Fees include use of the room, the registrars’ attendance and one copy of the marriage or civil partnership certificate. The fee is the same for couples choosing to have a marriage, a civil partnership with a ceremony or a civil partnership with no ceremony.

Under current government restrictions, the Council Chamber can accommodate the legal maximum of 13 guests, including children and babies. The couple, the registrars and one professional photographer do not count toward this number. These numbers are subject to review and change as government and public health advice changes, but we will let you know nearer to the time of your ceremony how many guests can attend and any other safety measures in place.

Room 99

At this time, with social distancing measures in place, Room 99 can only accommodate 4 guests, including children and babies. The couple, the registrars and one professional photographer do not count toward this number.  These numbers are subject to review and change as government and public health advice changes, but we will let you know nearer to the time of your ceremony how many guests can attend and any other safety measures in place.

Standard Ceremony

You will receive a standard legal ceremony, and due to time constraints there is no ability to customise the ceremony and we do not have time for the bride/groom/partner to make an entrance. It will not be possible to meet with the Registrar before the ceremony.

Minimal Legal Ceremony

Ceremonies or civil partnership signings in the statutory room will use the minimal wording required by law,

The time allowed for ceremonies in the statutory room is shorter than in other ceremony rooms, which is reflected in the lower price. This means that there is no scope for any addition to the standard legal ceremony. You will not be able to choose your ceremony, add readings or personal vows, to have separate pre-ceremony interviews or have a walk in. If these are important to you, we strongly recommend you choose one of our other rooms where these options are available.

With social distancing measures in place, the Mayor’s Parlour cannot be used in 2021 due to its size. This is subject to review and change as government and public health advice changes, but we will not book any new ceremonies in this room until it can be used again.

The Richmond Room- not currently in use

The Richmond Room cannot be used in 2021,as it cannot be accessed in a socially distanced way. This is subject to review and change as government and public health advice changes, but we will not book any new ceremonies in this room until it can be used again.
