About the room

On Saturdays between 15 January and 5 February 2022, during the safety upgrade work taking place in Room 99, we offer Committee Room 1 as a ceremony room.

With a more traditional layout than the Council Chamber but with the same grandeur of the Town Hall's 1920's design, Committee Room 1's original Art Deco features will provide a perfect setting for your special day.

The room provides an excellent space for any happy couple, featuring oak panelling, high, elaborate ceilings, and large windows providing ample natural light and ventilation.

Some personalisation of the content of the ceremony is offered for ceremonies in Committee Room 1, and you can choose to add:

  • a partner entrance
  • one non-religious reading
  • pre-recorded music at specific points

No coordination meeting with the registrar, extra readings, personal vows, live music or other personal elements can be accommodated, other than the exchange of rings.

If you wish to ‘make an entrance’ please note that you both need to be seen together for interview just before your marriage/civil partnership. After the interview you will be accompanied to the room ready for your entrance.

If full personalisation is important to you, please choose the Council Chamber, which allows full personalisation of ceremonies.

PLEASE NOTE: bookings for Room 99 made before 8 November 2021 that have been asked to move their ceremony to Committee Room 1 will not be charged any extra fee.

We apologise, but at this time, no other dates are available to book in Committee Room 1 other than Saturdays between 15 January and 5 February 2022.
