About the room

The Canonbury Suite has been designed to reflect the heritage of the Town Hall, with a romantic modern twist.

This beautiful pet-friendly room features wood panelled walls, velvet furniture and curated décor in gold, teal, and powder pink. You'll say your vows in front of the beautiful original Crittal stained glass window, which has been carefully restored back to its 1920's glory.

The intimate, bijou setting provides a stylish backdrop for 'cereminis' at Islington Town Hall. The Canonbury Suite is the perfect space for a city elopement or celebrating in elegant style with your very nearest and dearest.

Capacity

2 adult witnesses

The Canonbury Suite is an intimate room which can only hold:
• You and your partner
• Two adult witnesses
• The registrars

Children and babies cannot be accommodated in this room, as you can only bring two adult witnesses to your ceremony. If you want to bring a photographer, they’ll need to be one of your two witnesses.

These guest numbers are the maximum allowed following our fire and health and safety risk assessments.

Please note that it is a legal requirement and your responsibility to bring two adult witnesses to your ceremony. Our team are not able to act as witnesses or find witnesses for you.

Pets

You can choose to bring one pet to your ceremony in this room.

Ceremony types

Marriages
Civil partnerships
Civil partnership conversion ceremonies
Renewal of Vows (in 2025, enhanced ceremony bookings only)
Commitment ceremonies (in 2025, enhanced ceremony bookings only)
Naming Ceremonies (in 2025, enhanced ceremony bookings only)

Ceremonies in the Canonbury Suite in 2025 are shorter, simple ceremony options, offered for couples who would prefer this kind of ceremony. This means that on weekdays we are unable to offer readings, music, personal vows, separate pre-ceremony interviews or have a walk in. On Saturdays, limited personalisation is available, and you’ll be able to add a reading or personal vows and/or separate walk ins and music.

It may be possible for you to pay an additional fee to extend your ceremony to include full personalisation including separate interviews, depending on the ceremonies booked after yours. The fee for an enhanced ceremony is the cost of two standard Canonbury Suite ceremonies on the date you have chosen, as outlined below. Enhanced ceremonies can only be booked by email request, not online.

In 2026, all Canonbury Suite ceremonies will be fully personalisable as standard, with readings, music, a choice of script, and personal vows and a separate entrance if you choose.

Please note that we are not able to offer separate interviews in this room, so couples will need to see each other before the ceremony begins.

A simple ceremony will last around 20 minutes, with limited personalisation ceremonies lasting around 30 minutes and a fully personalised ceremony may last 40 minutes.
